don’t wait for me
go ahead, look straight ahead and play for me.
don’t stray from me
walk along, talk along and play with me.
don’t hate on me
keep it up, street it up, and talk to me.
on the way with me
fresher than fresh as you play the beat.
keep it straight with me
always on time and right mind in me.

a friday evening
Posted by danielthepoet | Filed under prose, thoughts
rays of light dim, then twinkle out behind a bank of trees
mind slows to the rhythm of a churning, crashing wave that must be a dream
sounds of children
dogs are laughing
the world has yet again unpaused.
but i am no eager partaker in this,
this friday evening.
as youth and looks and waistlines do
the comfort of this time of rest will sometime flee
and all too soon, i’ll hear again
the rustle and bustle of monday’s leaves.

transition
Posted by danielthepoet | Filed under prose
exploring something new.
the excitement. the anticipation.
returning to something old.
the letdown. the drudgery.
feel the earth pulling one direction
opposite conventional wisdom.
whispers of lost souls upon the leaves of summer trees:
“soon i will be gone. soon i will be gone from here.”

frustration
Posted by danielthepoet | Filed under prose
pushed to the point of being spent
waiting for more. but
no more comes.
it’s the end of the world
or the beginning of a new life.
cut me loose.
cut me loose.

lamentation
Posted by danielthepoet | Filed under prose
sadness.
sadness prevails.
this is what we are. drenched in the cool of the evening.
stars hidden behind a mask of man-made importance.
do you hear the groans? the earth. the earth, it moans.
the wait of what we see is too great a burden for me.
lift my shoulders off the ground. pick me up, but hold me down.
not too far, but don’t stay low. confused. on purpose. on we go.
we were meant for more. princes and kings. princes and kings, he whispers in my ear.
stay a while. focused and unfocused. squint your eyes toward the horizon.
is it real? or just an emotion?
