evernoting is the new journaling
Posted by danielthepoet | Filed under web 2.0
Some days you don’t want to share your thoughts with the whole world. Some days you can’t bear to slow down enough to write. I have days like that ALL THE TIME, so I looked for and found a new system of journaling. I call it “evernoting”. It should probably have a cooler name, but that’s what stuck.
I take my iPhone everywhere. I have my non-alcoholic moments of clarity in the most unusual places… i.e. bathrooms and traffic jams. My iPhone has an application called Evernote, which many of you recognize for its incredible organizational abilities. I like it because I can record 5 minute segments of the deepest, coolest thoughts ever and store them online with tags for future use.

transition
Posted by danielthepoet | Filed under prose
exploring something new.
the excitement. the anticipation.
returning to something old.
the letdown. the drudgery.
feel the earth pulling one direction
opposite conventional wisdom.
whispers of lost souls upon the leaves of summer trees:
“soon i will be gone. soon i will be gone from here.”

frustration
Posted by danielthepoet | Filed under prose
pushed to the point of being spent
waiting for more. but
no more comes.
it’s the end of the world
or the beginning of a new life.
cut me loose.
cut me loose.

lamentation
Posted by danielthepoet | Filed under prose
sadness.
sadness prevails.
this is what we are. drenched in the cool of the evening.
stars hidden behind a mask of man-made importance.
do you hear the groans? the earth. the earth, it moans.
the wait of what we see is too great a burden for me.
lift my shoulders off the ground. pick me up, but hold me down.
not too far, but don’t stay low. confused. on purpose. on we go.
we were meant for more. princes and kings. princes and kings, he whispers in my ear.
stay a while. focused and unfocused. squint your eyes toward the horizon.
is it real? or just an emotion?

Feeling the Creative Itch
Posted by danielthepoet | Filed under danielthepoet
It’s been a while since I wrote some prose for the sake of writing prose. So tonight I shall. No ad copy. No alterior motive. Just creativity. I gotta see if I still have the magic touch.
I may or may not share what I write online. Some things have to be guarded. Some things celebrated. Guess we’ll see which this is.

My First Blog Post from MS Word 2007
Posted by danielthepoet | Filed under Uncategorized
I had to try this out at least once, to see if Microsoft has actually provided a service, or just another jumbled mess to be undone later.
I am typing this blog post in Microsoft Word 2007, which allows you to sync up Word with your blog account. If you happen to be more comfortable typing your posts in Word rather than WordPress, this functionality will be really helpful to you (assuming you ever upgrade your MS Office to the 2007 or later version). Twitter Users Will Eventually Privatize
Posted by danielthepoet | Filed under twitter
It’s a given. Twitter users will eventually privatize. As with any popularized social media site/venue, popularity breeds marketing and marketing breeds spam. It’s unavoidable. There are already hundreds or thousands of Twitter bots friending anyone and everyone they can find in order to market their stupid products or post links to their latest blog posts.
Those of us who actually use Twitter to communicate will no doubt be forced to make a decision: privatize our profiles or move on to the next Twitter wannabe. Privatization doesn’t solve all problems, however.

Web 2.0 is all about the babies
Posted by danielthepoet | Filed under web 2.0
You’re wondering what the heck Web 2.0 has to do with babies, right? Unless you’re a new parent, you wouldn’t get it. Let me enlighten you. After a little consideration, you’ll have to decide whether parents are the new cool or Web 2.0 is reliving infancy.
My wife and I had our first baby in December 2007. Just before Thanksgiving, we went shopping at Babies R Us to see what kind of baby clothes are out there. Online Marketing is my thing, so I associate a LOT of things with the Web whenever possible. And as I wandered the baby clothing aisles, I was amazed by the similarities between the styles I saw and the websites I visit. Read the rest of this entry »

Check it out, ya’ll
Posted by danielthepoet | Filed under danielthepoet
I finally bit the bullet and registered danielthepoet.com. It’s been my handle for 5 years now, ever since I retired “rufusatemylunch” - a cooler name yet harder for most people to read for some reason.
So here I am, protecting my online reputation, and making sure no one else gets credit for being me. You can catch me online at Twitter - Twitter.com/danielthepoet
Keep it real. Stay tuned for more from the poet.
